Türkiye Burslari 2026 — Deadline Extended to February 25: Everything You Need to Know

The 2026 application deadline has shifted to February 25. From updated stipend amounts to strict eligibility filters, here is what you need to double-check before hitting submit.

AbroadMate Editorial·8 min read·Updated February 2026

The Turkish government just made a very quiet but massive update to the 2026 Türkiye Scholarships (Türkiye Bursları) program. Originally scheduled to close on February 20, the online application portal will now stay open until February 25, 2026.

If you are a student from Pakistan who has been rushing to get transcripts scanned and essays written, take a breath. You now have a five-day grace period to fix your application.

But do not just use this time to procrastinate. This is a fully funded, state-backed scholarship that covers flights, tuition, and living expenses. The evaluation process is strictly numbers-driven in the first round, and if you miss a basic requirement, your application goes straight into the rejection pile before a human ever reads your Letter of Intent.

Here is exactly what you need to review and fix before the new February 25 deadline.

The Financial Package (2026 Reality Check)

Before you commit years of your life to moving to Turkey, you need to know what the funding actually looks like this year.

The scholarship covers your full university tuition, free accommodation, health insurance, and a one-time return flight ticket.

On top of that, you receive a monthly cash stipend to help with daily living expenses. For the 2026 academic year, the official rates are:

(Quick note on living costs: While inflation in Turkey has been high, these stipends are generally enough to cover your basic daily expenses since your rent and utilities are already handled by the state dormitories.)

The Automatic Rejection Filters

The first round of evaluations is done by an automated system. If you do not meet these specific numbers, the system simply drops your application.

The Age Limits

Your age is calculated precisely at the time of application.

The Academic Baselines

Your previous CGPA or high school percentage matters heavily.

The Language Rule Most People Misunderstand

You can absolutely apply to study in 100% English-taught programs. However, if you do, you must provide internationally accepted language test results (like TOEFL or IELTS) if your specific chosen university demands it.

But here is the catch: even if you get accepted into an English-only Master's program, the Turkish government requires you to learn Turkish. Every single scholarship winner receives a mandatory 1-year Turkish language course before they start their degree. You have to factor this extra year into your graduation timeline.

3 Things to Fix During This 5-Day Extension

Since you have a few extra days, go back into the application portal and look at your profile with a critical eye.

1. Stop Picking Only Istanbul and Ankara

The portal lets you select multiple university and department preferences. A very common mistake applicants make is filling their slots with top-tier universities in Istanbul. Everyone applies to these. To improve your placement odds, balance your list. Include highly-ranked state universities in other great student cities.

2. Rewrite Your Letter of Intent (LOI)

Evaluation committees read thousands of generic essays. They do not care about generic fluff. Your letter needs to specifically answer three things: what your academic background is, what exact problem your future research or career will solve, and why studying in Turkey specifically helps you achieve that.

3. Check Your PDF Scans

It sounds silly, but applications get rejected every year because a passport scan was blurry or a transcript got cut off. Open every single PDF you uploaded. Make sure they are correctly oriented, clear to read, and accurately labeled.

The portal notoriously crashes on the final day due to global traffic. Do not wait until the evening of February 25 to click submit. Finalize your documents now and lock your application in early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an application fee for the Türkiye Scholarships?

No. The application process is entirely online and completely free of charge. Applications delivered by post, courier, or by hand will not be accepted.

Do I need an IELTS or TOEFL score to apply?

Not necessarily. You only need an English proficiency certification (like TOEFL or IELTS) if you want to study in an English-medium program and the specific university requires it.

Can I apply if I am already studying at a university in Turkey?

No. Individuals who are already registered in Turkish universities at the same level of study they are applying for are not eligible. Also, Turkish citizens and individuals who have lost their Turkish citizenship cannot apply.

Will there be an interview?

Yes. After the preliminary assessment, shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview. The interview usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes and covers your academic success, social activities, and motivation towards the relevant field.
